National Rail and Ferries Summit
Today I attended the Made in Canada - National Rail and Ferries Summit at ArcelorMittal Dofasco in Hamilton. I joined Minister Chrystia Freeland, Parliamentary Colleagues as well as Members of the Provincial and Municipal Governments as we engaged with industry leaders, union representatives and workers on the future of Canadian industry. Canada’s ferry services, railways, and steel and aluminum industries are engines of our economy. They connect our communities, create high-paying jobs, and build the infrastructure that Canadians rely on every day. At the summit we discussed the impact of tariffs, a unified national approach to rail and ferries procurement, that includes a built in Canada focus, as well as what steps we can take to open new markets, both inside and outside Canada. The next steps are action, and Minister Freeland as well as Secretary of State John Zerucelli reiterated our governments commitment to getting the job done, something I look forward to working on when Parliament resumes this month.
