Overnight I joined Officers of Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) as they patrolled the streets of Oakville. The speed and coordination with which they responded to call was impressive, as was the bravery and dedication of the Officers themselves, For me it was a fantastic opportunity to learn first hand the challenges that HRPS faces. Criminals are always adopting new techniques and technologies and the police are in a constant race to stay ahead. Issues like access to new technologies, information sharing between agencies and the need for bail reform are common themes I have encountered over and over; both last night and during my previous meetings with HRPS including with Chief Tanner. Crime does not have a party. During the election and since I have met people impacted by crime in our community and I will continue to champion the reform needed to combat crime. My team and I will continue to gather evidence, meet with frontline units and consolidate our findings so that we can work on targeted, informed and outcome focused policy changes in both the House of Commons as well as in the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security. Thank you to the brave officers of Halton Regional Police Service for your time last night and your service.
